Welcome to personal Studio of Allen Yu. This is my personal little space for my music Compositions.

This web site started as a work-in-progress. It represented my long-time dream of sharing my compositions. My dream finally came true in March of 2005, when I bit the bullet and bought a pair of brand new MXL microphones! Later in March 2007, I went and bought a Yamaha P140 digital piano - which made it even easier to record my music...

Composing has been a passion since high school. It had since become a very important part of my life, despite my choice to choose a career in other fields.

One of the most "tragic" events of my "music career" took place in 1996, when I lost over 80 written scores after I accidentally formatted my hard drive while installing minix for class - without a backup. I made peace and vowed to let all my music come and go - the same way life - with accidents - comes and goes ...   That is until some ten years later in 2005 when I had a change of heart.

So here I was - trying to keep my music again... While most of my compositions from 1988 - 2005 will remain lost, I promised to compose and record new ones!  The first album I completed was my Law School Years Album.  My first midi recording was my Second Career Years Album (unfortunately due to another accident, I lost over 15 pieces there).

The next big "break-through" happened around 2015, when my wife bought me a Disklavier Piano! She said I deserved it... So I started recording more. But then, most music ended up laying dormant as it was hard for me to listen to MIDI on my iPhone, in the car, etc.

Then in December of 2022, I stumbled upon a software called Pianoteq. The software allowed me to convert entire directories of Midi files to listenable mp3 or wave files with just a few clicks! When I re-discovered my music as a listener, I started harboring thoughts of releasing my music.

I still hestitated. Music had always been private - beyond judgement. I needed a collaborator - a professional musician - to help me get started. Then I met Victor on airgigs.com. Victor turned out to be a stellar arranger and pianist. He listened to and appreciated my music. Starting April 2023, I started collaborating with Victor on arranging and recording my music.

While I collaborate with wonderful musicians such as Victor to release my pieces, I may also release some of my own performances. But whatever happens, I will continue composing music as I always had since high school - in a quirky personal and private way.

Thank You for visiting! :-)

For anyone who wonders if there is a Disklavier I and II (and a few other earlier albums). Yes. I just haven't had found time to upload those yet.
